We were recently handpicked by Singapore’s Channel NewsAsia, as part of an international documentary, to talk about airspace development.
Channel NewsAsia’s Land Unlimited explores how land-scarce cities overcome the issues surrounding limited land availability. The series showcases how cities such as Tokyo, Hong Kong, London and Helsinki have all implemented innovative methods to address land scarcity, and highlights what Singapore can learn from their experiences.
There is a particular focus on Airspace Development, where Apex was selected as a market leader in our field to discuss the origins of the company, the potential for Airspace Development, how it works, and how it can help solve not only London’s housing shortage, but be implemented around the world.
London’s population is expected to grow by one million over the next decade, and the latest figures suggest the capital needs 65,000 new homes per year in that timeframe to meet this demand. Independent research by renowned architectural practice HTA Design has shown that there is potential for up to 180,000 properties in London alone, by capitalising on the unused airspace above residential, commercial and public buildings.
Arshad Bhatti, CEO of Apex Airspace comments:
“We stand firm in our belief that airspace development, coupled with the attributes of modular construction, are vital means to contribute towards solving the housing crisis in London. Once successfully executed in this leading global and land-scarce city, we believe other global cities will soon follow suit”
